Chocolate Cake Donuts

We have a great vegan donut shop here in Seattle that my husband and I love to stop by when we have out-of-town guests. Sometimes you need to push a little (no, I swear they’re good!), and I get it: I’ve eaten my fair share of vegan baked goods.

I usually try not to write recipes that require special utensils, but these require donut molds to close. However, donut molds are relatively cheap and widely available at kitchen supply stores and online stores. I used a donut mold for this recipe. once you have the


donut mold, you’re on your way to this recipe’s smooth, savory, chocolatey morning oil. Because I love its sweet, natural scent and I think it goes well with chocolate. That means you can use any oil you like.

Make sure the coconut oil is completely melted

Once the oil is heated and liquid, let it cool at room temperature for 10 minutes. This keeps the mixture smooth when added to other liquid ingredients. warm before mixing. I prefer soy milk or oat milk for this recipe

If used cold right out of the refrigerator, the temperature difference between the two liquids can cause the coconut oil to harden. Milk and oil should be at the same temperature.


This dough is so thick and sticky that you have to spoon the dough into the donut molds and use your fingertips to press it into each mold. Do your best to flatten the top – they end up on the bottom of the doughnut.
