Welcome back with this easy applesauce pie! It is rich, moist, and aromatic with notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and allspice. Top with cream cheese frosting or leave uncoated. The name of this cake probably sounds much more complicated than the cake itself. However, if you love the warmth and flavor of apple pie, you’ll love how easy it is to combine these flavors with your favorite spice cake recipe. You can use your favorite recipe or the following one, which takes less than 30 minutes to make and tastes great whether you bake it in the oven or put it in the crock pot to bake while you’re out of the house all day!

When apple season starts, we spend a week making homemade applesauce and apple butter from apples from our trees. We freeze applesauce for year-round use, so we’re always looking for ways to use it!
Since our freezer is now stocked with applesauce and there’s plenty more to come, I decided to experiment with the apple pie recipe from Michelle Davis’ Kitchen of the Senses.

It’s not so much a “cake” as it is a quick bread similar to our banana zucchini and bread, and the dough comes together quickly and you pour it into a square baking dish to bake. You can easily use the same batter to make applesauce muffins.
How to serve apple pie?
The applesauce cake can be served straight out of the pan or lifted using parchment paper to serve on a tray. It also goes great with cream cheese frosting or just plain.
Serve with applesauce pie as an afternoon snack or evening dessert. In any case, it will be a pleasant autumn treat with a cup of coffee or tea.
How to store and freeze apple pie?
Glazed or unfrozen applesauce brownies can be stored at room temperature for up to 5 days. (However, if your kitchen heat is above 70°F, refrigerate the frozen pie.)
To Freeze: Do not freeze the cake. Let it cool completely, then wrap it in cling film and then aluminum foil. Freezing for up to 3 months; thaw on the counter overnight before serving or making frosting

2 cups (280 g) flour |
1 teaspoon baking soda |
1 teaspoon cinnamon |
1/2 teaspoon ground spice |
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg |
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1/2 cup (112 g, stick) unsalted butter, room temperature |
1 cup (200 g) sugar |
3 large eggs |
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract |
1 cup applesauce |
1/4 cup plain yogurt lightly thinned with milk or 1/4 cup buttermilk |
1/2 cup chopped walnuts |
1/2 cup raisins |
1 serving of cream cheese frosting, optional |
additional walnuts for garnish, optional |
method
1 applesauce uses in baking preheat the oven, and prepare the baking sheet: Preheat oven to 375°F. Lightly oil an 8-inch square baking dish, then line it with parchment paper to form a tie.
2 Combine dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, cloves, and salt until well combined. Cancel.
3 Prepare the dough: In a separate bowl, using an electric mixer or a stand mixer, beat the butter until light and fluffy. Add sugar and beat until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating after each addition. Add vanilla and applesauce and beat until smooth.
4 Mix half of the dry ingredients. Just before blending, add thin cottage cheese (or buttermilk). Then mix in the rest of the dry ingredients, nuts, and raisins until fully combined. Don’t mix too much.
5 applesauce cake. Baking. Pour batter into the prepared cake pan. Place on the middle rack of a preheated 375°F oven and bake for 25-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean. The cake should spring back when touched.
Cool: Remove the cake from the oven. Let cool for 15 minutes. Lift the cake out of the pan with parchment paper and transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely. Top with cream cheese frosting and sprinkle with walnuts if you like, or serve as is.
The cake can be put back into the mold or in an airtight container. 1 tablespoon butter or margarine, softened -1 cup sugar -2 eggs -1 teaspoon vanilla extract -2 cups all-purpose flour -2 teaspoons baking powder -1/4 teaspoon baking soda -1/2 teaspoon salt -3 cups peeled and chopped apples (about 4 medium apples)
